• Accomplishments over the Past Four Years
I saved Orange Taxpayers over $70 million dollars over 8 years by forcing the city trash disposal contract out to competitive bid.  This is the first time in the history of the city that the contract was put out to the open marketplace.
  • Pension Reform
In 2003, City of Orange employees were granted retroactive enhanced pensions.  I believe that employees should be fairly compensated, but should also pay their fair share of the pension burden.  In 2010, I was successful in achieving increased employee contribution rates that are balanced and amoung the highest in the State of California.  I have not, and never will support a retroactive pension increase.
  • Taxes and Fees
During my tenure I have eliminated several fees for permits that in my view were unnecassery.  As a result, you no longer need to pay a fee to hook up a garbage disposal or dishwasher in your kitchen.  I've also cast a no vote against the raising of fines for street sweeping tickets.  They were recently raised from $50 to $54.50.  That's way to much in my view.
  • Parolees
I co-authored the strictest sex offender housing ordinance in the state as the Department of Corrections was placing dozens of parolees in our city.  Motel managers now have to notify their guests if a registered sex offender in staying at their establishment.
